About Us

Exist to make room.

Common Sister is a creative production company that exists to make room. Room for untold stories, emerging artists, and communities too often left out of the big stories. By nurturing artists first and being intentional, we transform connection and community into performance.

We curate and select works that highlight universal human experiences that fully grasp the breath of diversity that exists in our community. Every background, every discipline, adds a thread to the tapestry we’re weaving together. In the end, we discover how much we share, even in our differences.

Our Story

Our Co-Founders and Artistic Directors, Katie Brown (she/her) and Rachel Lee (she/her), met as part of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ 2023–2024 year-long internship cohort. Their artistic connection deepened while working together in the Artistic Programming Department on the Artist Services team for the 2024 Summer for the City Festival.

During this time, Katie envisioned creating a work centered on a fully BIPOC women ensemble, one that reflects their lived experiences while remaining resonant and relatable to all audiences through a shared celebration of diversity. She invited Rachel to produce the piece, and the rest is history.

What began as a single project, The Third Track, ultimately brought Katie and Rachel closer in their artistic vision, laying the foundation for what is now Common Sister.
